"The City of Beautiful People": Press Conference by Patrcia Shayne Jayag

Press Conference took place in New Ormoc City Hall,12 June 2017 with different sectors of the government. Ormoc City, "the city of beautiful"people thats how Mayor Richard Gomez started the said conference and how he describe the citizens of Ormoc. The conference happened promotes the 420th celebrating of city fiesta of Ormoc City this month of June wherein Piña Festival was being highlighted due to the fact that it symbolizes how Ormocanons acknowledge our very own patron for the abundant and fruitful harvest of sweet pineapple. In relation to this, Estrella Maria Serafica- Pangilinan, chairman of Ormoc Festival and Cultural Foundation discussed the essence of executing this festival. In addition, Jude Abrenoha talked about sports which is according to him, the tournament is currently happening before the festivity. Other than sports events and festival, Sandra Chiong raised that Ormoc City is in the search for Miss Ormoc 2017 which was confirmed participated with 20 lovely ladies. The crowned Miss Ormoc 2017 will promote local tourism, and have the chance to represent Ormoc in the Miss Tourism Philippines pageant. To make things even clearer, media had the chance to ask questions which were answered honestly and with courtesy. For the last part of the event, Mayor Richard Gomez wrapped up all what have been discussed and end with an acknowledgement respectively.

Ormoc City Fiesta Executive Committee: Ormoc City Press Conference

“The City of Beautiful People”; that is the descriptive motto of Ormoc. Today, June 12, 2017 is the day of our Independence, we commemorate its 119^th Years of Sovereignty. Also, the 2017 Ormoc City Fiesta Executive Committee today held a Press Conference about the 16-18 Fiesta Sectoral Events Day and Night Celebration and the 420th City Fiesta. The said Press conference was attended by the different sectors of the government namely; Hon. Nolitz Quilang, Ailyn Suares Aviles, Estrella Serafica Pangilinan, Dra. Sandra Chiong, Nelson Alindugan, Jude Abenoja, Chulu Franco and our very own Mayor Richard Gomez.

The Press Conference was started by Mayor Richard Gomez, followed by Hon. Nolitz Quilang, Chairman of Sectoral Events Commitee. “We want them to show something new and remarkable event”; that was his impressing word. Next is Ailyn Suarez Aviles. She emphasized in her talk the 3rd Lake Danao Festival. In the said festival; there will be a 2 days event. On the first day the events are Tree Planting activity; for those who doesn’t like recreational activities, Long Boarding Competition, Water Sports namely: Tandem Kayak Race, Stand-up Paddle Boarding, Native Bangka Tug of War, and fishing contest; and Mobile Phone Photo/Video Contest. On the second day the events are Runs, 10 k trail run, 5k fun run,and 3k fun run; and Lake Water Clean-up. The first activity will start 7 in the morning. Another is Estrella Serafica Pangilnan, the Chairman of the Ormoc Festival and Cultural Foundation. She explained the upcoming Piña Festival on June 25, 2017. According to her, Piña Festival was done during 2001 by the time of Mayor Toto Locsin Sr. And was replaced by another festival by the next administration. She say that “She want to bring back Piña Festival, because the Piña Festival seeks to promote not only Ormoc’s very own sweet queen pineapple but will manifest every Ormocanon’s beautiful and sunshine nature”. She also stated the prizes of the Piña Festival. First Prize is worth P300,000.00, Second prize is P200,000.00, third prize is P100,000.00, and P200,000.00 incentives of all contingents. She mentioned also the search for Pineapple Queen of all contingents, the special awards namely; Best in Choreography, Best in Costume, and Street Dancing Competition which is fall to three categories (1st, 2nd, and 3rd). After that is Dra. Sandra Chiong, The President of Rotary Club of Ormoc and the Chairman of Ms. Ormoc 2017. “This will be the Grandest Ms. Ormoc”, Dra Chiong said. There are 20 Beautiful Candidates, all from Ormoc City and should expect lots of Special Awards. The gates will open 5pm on June 28, 2017. Special guests are Mark Nelson, the host of the pageant, It’s Showtime HASHTAGS and the one who will serenade the candidates, Mr. Billy Crawford. Dra. Chiong advice those people who want to witness the Ms. Ormoc 2017 to bring only hand bags for the safety of everybody. Another is Nelson Alindugan. He is in charge of the culminating concert on June 29 at the city stage and encourage all sectors to participate in this thanksgiving concert. Special guests are Manila Band’s Freestyle and Gloc 9, Sexbomb NewGen, Myrtle Sarrosa, Kristof Garcia and DJ Tom Taus. Jude Abenoja,The Ormoc Chamber President talks also on the press conference. He want to expres his heartful thanks to the major sponsors specially to PEPSI-COLA and EDC as main sponsor presentor of the said event. Last is Chulo Franco, Tour Operator and City Tourism Counsil. He speaks about the destination promoting our city and also the three hidden majestic falls of Ormoc especially the Miranda Falls, one of the historical falls of the city.
